Residents’ perception of local tourism and cultural operators’ CSR initiatives.
Abstract:
In recent years, corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices have started to be considered as an important part of organizations’ strategic plans. Many scholars have studied these activities and strong evidence supports their positive impacts on the organizations’ financial performance (Kang et al., 2010; Inoue et al., 2011; Theodoulidis et al., 2017) and stakeholders’ attitude. (Turker et. al, 2009; Lee et al., 2014; Boğan et al., 2018).
However, in some industries, CSR research is underdeveloped (Coles et al., 2013) and it is lagging behind the main streams of research (Ayuso, 2006). This research gap, united with the fact that the inferences made among industries about CSR tend to be not significant (Wells et al., 2016), has created the need for a deeper and industry-specific study of the role of CSR.
My project wants to address to these issues and, focusing specifically on the role of CSR for the tourism activities, wants to develop a model, following Gursoy et al (2019) methodology, that analyzes how these initiatives, framed inside the four dimensions of CSR pyramid by Carroll (1991), are perceived by the locals and, within this, identify which element of CSR may act as triggering factors of the community support or the opposition to different tourism related initiatives.
